New TSUBEB Boss, Charity Taninga Promises Better Days For Teachers, Pry Schools

The newly appointed Executive Chairperson of the Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board (TSUBEB), Mrs. Charity Taninga, has pledged to ensure that the Board earns recognition as one of the best in Nigeria. 

She made this commitment during the official handover on Monday, March 3, 2025, held at the board's conference hall in Jalingo.

She was accompanied by three permanent members: Ambassador Musa John (PM-I), Dr. Zakariya John (PM-II), and Alhaji Aminu Jika (PM-III).

 

Mrs Taninga, an educator, expressed confidence in addressing the key issues affecting teachers, particularly in areas such as promotions, refresher courses, and timely salary payments.

 

She emphasized that the commitment from Governor Agbu Kefas to the education sector would play a critical role in achieving these goals, urging everyone to take their responsibilities seriously and to provide the best for the pupils.

 

"I want our teachers to be educated, as their knowledge is essential for shaping the minds of our pupils. Secondly, I want our teachers to be happy because dissatisfaction related to promotions or salaries can negatively affect their interactions with pupils.

 

"There is what we call a transfer of expression. So, once teachers are not happy, they will end up beating the pupils.

 

"Thanks to the expertise of my fellow permanent members. Mrs Taninga stated.

 

 

The Executive Chairperson also reassured the leadership of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) in the state of her determination to collaborate effectively to meet the objectives of the current administration's free education agenda. 

 

Additionally, Mrs Charity Taninga commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his transformative programs and policies and expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the Board, promising to make him proud.

 

In her earlier remarks, the outgoing Acting Chairperson, Mrs. Rabi Sunday, thanked Governor Agbu Kefas for allowing her to serve in an acting capacity, contributing her quota to the development of education in the state.

 

She highlighted some achievements during her stewardship, which included constructing and renovating schools, providing learning materials, building teacher capacity, and securing the inclusion of the Board in the state budget among others.

 

Mrs. Sunday also pointed out significant challenges facing the Board, such as inadequate office space, insufficient funding, a shortage of teachers, especially in remote areas, infrastructural deficiencies, and the need for improved monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. 

 

However, she expressed optimism that under Mrs Taninga's leadership, these challenges would be addressed and offered the full support of the management and staff to the new leadership.

 

In their remarks, the permanent members, Alhaji Aminu Jika, Dr. Zakariya John, and Ambassador Musa John said they are committed to justifying the trust placed in them by Governor Kefas by working collaboratively to ensure quality education is accessible to all residents of Taraba, aligning with the Governor's free education policy.

 

It is worth noting that, Mrs Christy Taninga will now be seen as a maternal figure for the one thousand, one hundred and fifty million (1,150,000.000) pupils across the sixteen local government areas of Taraba State who are enrolled in public schools.

 

The occasion rounded off with a tour of the Chairperson and Permanent Members' offices led by the former Acting Chairperson of the Board, Mrs Rabi Sunday, alongside the Directors, as well as the NUT Chairman, and Chairman of NUJ, Taraba State Council, Comrade Mathew Eliud Jen among others.
