How I Fought Civil Servants From Extending Their Stay In Service – Chief John Mamman

The immediate past chairman of Taraba State Civil Service Commission (CSC), Chief John Mamman has said he had spent all his time fighting against alteration of date of birth and the date of first appointment by civil servants in order to extend their stay in the service.

He disclosed this during his recent 80th birthday anniversary celebration which he describe as a conspiracy between his children and wife.

According to him, the cat was let out of the bag when his wife Titiasked whether he had considered shifting the birthday, but he replied, as a chairman, State Civil Service Commission, he had spent all his time fighting against alteration of date of birth and the date of first appointment by civil servants in order to extend their stay in the service, "so why should I change my birthday as it will not extend my stay on earth" he replied.

He further disclosed that he became part of the conspiracy when he was planning his birthday for the usual low-key but later succumbed to pressure when the siblings decided to celebrate him in a grand style.

The elder statesman who despite the pressures thanked his wife, children, relatives, friends and well-wishers for standing by him at his crucial moment of his life till date.

He expressed gratitude to the state governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas for finding time to grace the occasion despite his busy schedules and as well lauded him for mature approach in tackling problems affecting the state such as traditional disputes, banditry, armed robbery and kidnappings among other several challenges.

Chief Mamman who took time to shed light on his past experience as public office holder, revealed how he avoided the temptation of being dragged into releasing official memos to the then authorities apart from several logger-heads he encountered in the hands of the then Gongola state Military Administrators at that time.

In the opening remarks, chairman of the occasion, Chief Dr. Philip Danladi Duwe described the celebrant as a gift to the generation.

According to Chief Duwe, the elder statesman was among the few Tarabans that are being respected across board, saying Chief Mamman had paid his dues to the people of the state and urged Tarabans to keep praying for him in good health and long life.

On her part, the wife of the celebrant Mrs. Titi John Mammanappreciated God upon the husband and family as well as thanking everyone who came to celebrate with them on the occasion and prayed to God to guide and protect all.
