Gov. Kefas Commends ANI’s Efforts in Preserving Gashaka-Gumti National Park

Taraba State Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas has praised Africa Nature Investors (ANI) for its efforts in preserving and maintaining Gashaka-Gumti National Park.

Governor Kefas gave this commendation at the Exco Chamber, TY Danjuma House, Jalingo, while receiving the report of ANI's activities in the state.

The governor assured ANI of his administration's continued support, stating, "We will work closely with ANI to ensure that the park is effectively managed and that the benefits of conservation are shared equitably among our communities."

"We are committed to supporting initiatives that promote conservation and development in our state. We believe that Gashaka-Gumti National Park has the potential to be a major driver of economic growth and job creation," Governor Kefassaid.

Earlier, the Executive Director of ANI, Mr. Tunde Morakinyo, commended Governor Agbu Kefas for his support, saying, "We appreciate the governor's support, which has enabled us to add value to the progress of the state."

Mr. Morakinyo, who presented a report of ANI's activities to the governor highlighted the organization's vision for the state. "Our vision is to ensure the effective management of Gashaka-GumtiNational Park, act as an engine for the development of the state, and attract investors to the state through the park," he explained.

He highlighted the features of the park and the various species that distinguish it from others, adding that it is very strategic to the country.

Mr. Tunde Morakinyo raised the alarm over unwholesome activities such as bush burning, illegal mining, hunting, and cattle rustling, which are threatening the effective management of the park.

Speaking of their achievements at the park, the ANI Executive Director mentioned improved infrastructure at the park, provision of an internet network, GPS systems, solar lights, access to water, and the provision of 11 vehicles and a helicopter for operations within the park.

To address the problem of poverty, Mr. Tunde Morakinyo said ANI has collaborated with various NGOs and empowered women who are now involved in several economic activities.

He solicited the support of the state government and said they would sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the state government to formalize their activities.
