Taraba Civil Servants Yet To Start Receiving New Minimum Wage

Civil servants in Taraba State have expressed sadness over the non commencement  of payment of the new minimum wage, by the Taraba state government.

 

This is coming two months after President Bola Tinubu had signed the new minimum wage into law.

 

Taraba Truth and Facts re[orts that about twenty states have begun payment of the new minimum wage; Lagos, Rivers, Bayelsa, Niger, Enugu, AkwaIbom, Abia, Adamawa, Anambra, Jigawa, Gombe, Ogun, Kebbi, Ondo, Kogi among others.

 

Recall that on August 31, 2024, Gov. Agbu Kefasrevealed that Taraba is working on N70,000 new minimum wage and will readily implement it as soon as possible.

 

He further revealed that the office of the Head of Service of the state was working on the new national minimum wage table for implementation in the state adding that "as soon as they get back to him, I will approve it."

 

However September and October salaries have been paid and the new minimum wage wasn't paid in the state, dashing the hope of so many civil servants in the state who had high expertations.

 

Some of the civil servants who spoke with our reporter on the condition of anonymity lamented the high cost of living Nationwide and stressed implementing the new minimum wage will at least ease their plights.

 

Another civil servant expressed his displeasure and called out the governor to emulate his Adamawa counterpart who was among the first states to approve the new minimum wage.

 

Newsmen gathered from top sources in the government that the table for the 70,000 minimum wage was submitted to the governor alongside the former one but he chose to approve the former. 

 

They further stated that there seems to be an abnormal surge in the new table which they alleged to have the governor question certain things and awaits clarification. Citing a particular ministry that about 3 people's salaries are paid into one PSN.

 

Unconfirmed reports have it that the governor wanted to approve 80,000 minimum wage to begin implementation by 2025. However, civil servants opted for the 70,000 to begin immediately.
