Commuters Urge FG to Award Contract for Reconstruction of Collapsed Namnai Bridge


 

The Federal Government has been asked to expedite action on the award of reconstruction of Namnai collapsed Bridge in Gassol Local Government Area.

 

Some commuters interviewed at the bridge in Namnai expressed dismay over the inability of the Federal and state Governments to provide an emergency bridge as an alternative to cushion the hardships being faced by motorists since the collapsed of the bridge.

 

Speaking, one of the commuters, Adamu Rabiu said motorists are facing difficulties to cross through ferries, adding that many vehicles trapped inside mould on daily basis in the course of crossing, stressed the need for Taraba State Government to provide an emergency alternative to lessen the hardships faced by the people.

 

Rabiu also expressed the need for Government to take urgent intervention considering the importance of the bridge which linked the north and southern part of country.

 

He noted that motorists would soon find it difficult to cross through ferries because the level of water is gradually reducing to a level that a ferry cannot ply, adding that even now some ferries are just managing to follow some areas.

 

On his part, a commercial driver, Umar Tanko Bako said they are facing various kinds of challenges in course of crossing on ferries especially now that the level of water had reduced.

 

He said many ferries had relocate due to the low level of the water, lamenting that the remaining few ferries are overcharging vehicles, lamenting that a small vehicles paid four thousand while a hummer bus paid six thousand naira.

 

He called on the Federal and state Governments to as a matter urgency to come their aid in order to mitigate the sufferings faced by motorists.

 

Also commenting, an official with National Union of Road Transport Workers NURTW, Jalingo main motor park, AlhAbdulmumuni Usaini called on the Federal and state Governments as well as Senator representing Taraba Central zone to take a proactive measures to reconstruct the collapsed bridge for the benefit of all.
