Contractor Abandons Chanchagi Dam Project After Receiving N489m

 Community Urges Tinubu to Revoke Contract, Seeks Intervention from Gov. Kefas

A group called Taraba Community Watchers (TCW) has condemned Havage Engineering Services Ltd for failing to meet the terms of a contract awarded in 2020 for the construction of the Chanchagi Dam in Takum Local Government Area.

In the statement signed by Secretary Daniel Asoaga, the group highlighted that the dam project, aimed at addressing severe water shortages in the region, has seen significant delays. They noted that over N489 million was allocated for the project to enhance the state's economic activities, but the contractor has only completed a fraction of the work.

The group called on Governor Kefas Agbu to escalate the matter to the Federal Ministry of Water Resources and the Upper Benue River Basin Development Authority, urging them to revoke Havage Engineering's contract and assign it to a more competent company.

The group reported that Havage Engineering is currently embroiled in numerous court litigations, raising concerns about its capability to manage multiple projects.

"They were awarded the contract in 2020 to address acute water problems in our community; after four years, less than half of the job is done, and their presence is no longer felt," the statement lamented.

TCW also appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and ensure the contract is transferred to a more reliable contractor.
