Taraba Govt Raises Alarm Over Fake Tax Collectors

The Taraba State Board of Internal Revenue has warned all individuals diverting government-generated revenue to individual accounts to desist, or face the law.

Chairman of the State Board of Internal Revenue, Brigadier-General Jeremiah Faransa (Rtd), also called on the public to be wary of fake tax collectors, and pay their taxes only to the state's Treasury Single Account.

Taraba State Governor, Agbu Kefas inaugurated the Board of Internal Revenue on June 19, with a mandate to enhance revenue collection mechanisms in the state.

Within over one month of assuming office, the Board Chairman, Brigadier-General Faransa, revealed that the state government's internally generated revenue is being shortchanged by individuals, who issue illegal receipts, and divert taxes to private accounts.

He warned those who engage in such acts to desist, or be brought to book, as the Board is out to block leakages, and harmonise collection of the state's internal revenue into the government's Treasury Single Account to be used for the benefit of the people.

Faransa also charged the public to be wary of dubious tax collectors, and not to pay their taxes in cash, but into the state's Treasury Single Account.
