Governor Urged to Prioritize Safety of Operation Keep Taraba Clean Workers

Following the tragic death of a worker from the Operation Keep Taraba Clean initiative, local citizens are calling on Governor Agbu Kefas to implement safety measures to prevent future accidents.

Emmanuel James Daffo, a loyal Taraba citizen, has proposed several recommendations to the Governor through the Ministries of Waste Management and Innovation and Environment.

Daffo suggests that the government provide clear signage and reflective jackets to make workers more visible to motorists. He also emphasizes the need for adequate equipment and timely payment of allowances to ensure workers' well-being and productivity.

Daffo's recommendations align with growing concerns about the safety of sanitation workers in the state. Last week, a street sweeper in the employment of the Operation Keep Taraba Clean, identified as Nemis Usman was reportedly killed by a hit and run driver in Jalingo, the Taraba State.

 

The woman, who was participating in the early morning cleaning, was crushed to death by the yet to be identified driver in the early hours of Thursday between the Road block and Mile Six along Yola Road.

 

 

Sources at the Federal Medical Centre, FMC, Jalingo, confirmed that the woman died before she was rushed to the hospital.

 

Confirming the incident, the coordinator of Operation Keep Taraba Clean, Iliya Kefas, said efforts to track down the driver are in top gear.

 

The Taraba State Police Spokesperson the spokesperson, Gambo Kwache, said the Police are working round the clock to bring the perpetrator to book.

 

In the meantime, the Taraba State Government has condoled with the family of late Nemis Garba.

 

The condolence delegation was led to the residence of the deceased at Mile Six by the Chairman of the Palliatives Committee, Hon Sale Sa'ad.

 

 

 

While describing the deceased as a hard working member of operation keep Taraba clean, he prayed for the repose of the soul of the deceased.

 

 

Responding on behalf of the Family, Mr Jatau Isaku thanked the delegation of the Taraba state Government for identifying with them at a time like this.

 

Late mama Nemis Garba died at the age of 55  and left behind four children.

 

Cash was also presented to the family to help reduce the difficulty of the family while preparing for the deceased's burial.
