APC Disown Senator Jimkuta's 6M Gift To 'Aspirants', Denies One Million Donation To Party

Some stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress APC in Taraba State have disowned a donation of six million Naira donated by Senator representing Taraba South, Mr David Jimkuta, saying its member were not beneficiaries.

Several Stakeholders who spoke to Taraba Truth and Facts Newspapers said the people present at the presentation of the donation were majorly candidates of the Labour Party and the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) during the last election.

A statement from Senator Jimkuta's Media Team stated that as the Leader of the APC in Taraba State, Senator David S.U. Jimkuta demonstrated his dedication by donating ₦6,000,000 to APC aspirants who contested elections in the state, despite not winning.

The statement added that Senator Jimkuta met with the Taraba State APC state executives, where he expressed confidence in the party's potential and emphasized the need for unity. He also donated ₦1,000,000 to the executives, underscoring his commitment to ensuring the party is adequately funded.

Reacting to the donation, a former federal lawmaker who contested the 2023 elections said Senator Jimkuta's action shows his lack of capacity to lead the APC in Taraba State.

"It's wrong to claim that Jimkuta donated money to APC aspirants or candidates because those in the pictures online didn't contest under the APC in recent times, they are known NNPP and Labour Party candidates. It's either Jimkuta is being scammed or he doesn't know those who are in the APC here in Taraba State.

"Am not bothered about the money but its Jimkuta who needs to be more transparent as leader of the party."

A youth leader of the party Idris Ayuba said the lawmaker met with the wrong people in Jalingo.

"No doubt, some of the people contested but were not candidates. Again some people in that picture contested only in 2015 and not 2023.

"In the picture also, there are candidates for Labour party and NNPP and their people who didn't contest at all. I was told those people came under Aspirants' Forum. What I don't understand is, aspirants for all political parties or APC. Certainly not APC alone going by what I saw," Idris said.

Meanwhile APC Publicity Secretary in the state Aaron Artimas said Senator Jimkuta neither formally met nor gave one million naira to the APC State Executive Committee.

He said the Senator gave the money to party members who went by their own volition to see him, nothing that Senators elsewhere can't give the party such pittance and generously announce it, describing it as shameful and demeaning.

On his party APC State Secretary Hon. Fidelis Francis Zing revealed that Senator David Jimkuta has not been paying the party's monthly due since he was elected into National Assembly.

Hon. Fidelis Francis Zing said despite being awarded the seat by the court, Senator Jimkuta has refused to pay his monthly dues, demonstrating a lack of accountability and commitment to the very Institution you're supposed to serve.
