Taraba Poly Stops Sales Of Handouts To Students, Pledges Zero Tolerance For Extortion

 

 

The Acting Rector of Taraba State Polytechnic Suntai, Dr Agbu Danlamin, has affirmed the institution's commitment to the state's Free Education policy, emphasizing a zero-tolerance stance against extortion of students.

 

Speaking to journalists at the Jalingo campus, Danlamin highlighted the school's policy against the sale of handouts and other forms of extortion. He emphasized that the management is aligned with Governor Agbu Kefas' vision of alleviating the financial burden of education for parents and ensuring access for all children.

 

Danlamin acknowledged the governor's support for education and requested further assistance in addressing infrastructure challenges. He specifically mentioned the need for solar lights, drainage systems, and a guest hall for hosting large gatherings.

 

"We are fully compliant with the governor's free education policy," Danlamin stated. "The tuition has been reduced by 50%, and we have a policy against the sale of handouts and any form of extortion. We have sensitized students to report any attempts by lecturers to demand money, and our lecturers are also committed to this policy."

 

While acknowledging the institution's efforts to improve academic quality, Danlamin emphasized the need for infrastructural development. He highlighted the lack of drainage systems, which increases the risk of flooding during heavy rainfall. Additionally, the absence of solar-powered streetlights poses security concerns at night.

 

Danlamin also mentioned the encroachment of locals on unfenced land across a stream, emphasizing the need for a bridge to connect the land to the main campus for future development.

 

"We urge the state governor to kindly consider our infrastructural needs," Danlamin concluded. "His passion for education is evident, and we believe his support will further enhance the quality of education at our institution."
