Taraba Introduces Programme To Improve Pupils Reading Abilities

The Taraba state government has announced the introduction of the Early Grade Programme, to promote the abilities of reading in primary schools across the state.

The announcement is made during the grand opening of the Nya-musala primary school, by the Taraba state commissioner for Education Dr Augustina Godwin in Jalingo.

According to the a statement signed by the, Secretary Primary Education Board Jalingo, Rabi Sunday, the programme would capture students from basic, one and two to be able to read before they completed their basic six.

Sunday, highlighted that the Universal Basic Education Programme will henceforth select only one state in the Northeast, hence the need for the improved and introduction of the programme in schools across the state.

According to her, the Taraba State Universal Basic Education Board shall henceforth conduct written and oral interview to ascertain competence of any teacher before appointment as head teacher in government schools. 

Five schools were selected for the test run of the programme which include, the Governors' School formerly known as Nyamu Sala Primary School

Hassan Primary School,

Howai Primary school,

Jauro Isa Primary School and 

Kona Primary School in Jalingo Local Government Universal Basic Education Authority.
