The commissioner of Commerce, Trade, and Industry, Hon. George Peter speaking at the re-opening program of the Wukari International Yam market emphasized the government's commitment to supporting local trade and industry.

 

He said Governor Agbu Kefas is committed to promoting  economic growth and also fostering harmonious relationships between businesses and investors in the state.

 

Hon. George Peter was represented by the Head of Local Government Administration (HOLGA), Wukari Alh. Tanko Abdulrahman Sule, said the Wukari International Yam market has been a center for agricultural commerce and trade within the Wukari local government area for many years.

He said the re-opening symbolizes a new era of prosperity for the community and highlights the importance of fostering successful business relationships.

 

He said the government will play a crucial role in facilitating dialogue between buyers and sellers, promoting fair trade practices, and showcasing the abundant agricultural resources available in the region.

 

"The importance of the market re-opening program cannot be overstated. It not only provides a platform for local farmers and traders to showcase their produce but also attracts buyers from neighboring communities and beyond. This, in turn, contributes to the economic development of Wukari and strengthens the overall market ecosystem."

 

Chairman of the Wukari International Yam Market Mr. Yakubu  Jerry said the market is one of the biggest in the Nation, urging the state government to build and promote it to international standard .

 

"Because of the advancement of the market to an international standard, the market needs to be expanded or located to a place that can accommodate the growing population of the market.

"For the security of lives and properties in the market there is the need for security lights, police posts, health centers and means of water to boost the business and attract more customers. We plead with the government to come up with a loan program that will assist small and big scale businesses within the market under the watch of the officials."
