Peace Returning To Karim As Wurkun, Karimjo Embrace Dialogue

 

  Warring communities in Wurkun and Karinjo in Karim-Lamido local government council of Taraba State have begun moves to return peace to the area after a closed door meeting with Governor Agbu Kefas.

 

The two communities unanimously agreed to give peace a chance by sheathing their sword to attract development to their communities and the council at large.

 

The peace moves were facilitated by the state governor, Agbu Kefas, through a twenty-six-man committee put in place to resolve the crisis in the area.

 

Speaking at an event at Karim-Lamido, the administrative headquarters of the council, leaders of the two communities resolved to work round the clock to bring an end to the crisis which has led to massive destruction of lives and property.

 

The National President of the Wurkun Development and Cultural Association, Wilfred Kwanchi and his counterpart from Karinjo, Hamman Adama Adamu, agreed not to leave any stone unturned in preventing a further outbreak of crises in their communities and the council as a whole.

 

They also reiterated readiness to work with the security personnel, to bring to book a person or group of persons that may attempt to frustrate the peace agreement entered into.

 

Leader of the Committee, Inuwa Bakari on his part said the governor will only bring the much-desired growth to the council when the people eschew all forms of crisis and embrace peace.

 

"The present state governor is ready to wipe off your tears by bringing development to your doorsteps provided you are all willing to embrace peace."

 

While calling on security operatives not to spare any person or group of persons attempting to halt the peace agreement, Bakari said "the state government will not hesitate to disrobe any district or village head caught promoting disunity in his domain".

 

Meanwhile the  government has announced the relaxation of a 24-hour curfew in Karim-Lamido local government area, extending the curfew by 12 hours.

 

The curfew will now be in effect from 6:00 PM to 6:00 AM until further notice from the government.

 

In a press statement issued by Mr Yusuf Sanda, the Chief Press Secretary to Governor Agbu Kefas, it was revealed that the decision to relax the curfew came after Governor Kefas held constructive discussions with key stakeholders from the communities involved in the dispute in Karim Lamido local government.

 

The statement further highlighted that the government has observed positive cooperation between the Wurkun and Karimjo communities following a meeting with community leaders.
