FMC Jalingo Gets Accreditation To Train Resident Doctors In Family Medicine

 

The Federal Medical Centre Jalingo has gotten accreditation to train resident doctors in Family Medicine Department after it was adjudged fit by the West African College of Physicians.

The accreditation, which is the first in the history of the tertiary hospital followed the fulfilment of several criteria such as relevant equipment and needed staff and other infrastructures for such postgraduate training.

 

While conveying the message of approval, the team leader Professor Musa Dankyau said Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo scored 82% of the requirements hence accredited for two years to operate a residency program in Family Medicine.

 

"The Federal Medical Centre, Jalingo (FMCJ) similar to most tertiary institutions in Nigeria has an established Family Medicine Department serving as the entry point for most patients seeking care. Thus, the Department of Family Medicine is the gateway to the Federal Medical Centre ,Jalingo that provides both out-patient and in-patient services within Taraba State and neighboring States."

 

 

Meanwhile the Chief Medical Director, Federal Medical Center, Jalingo, Dr. Aisha Shehu Adamu, has complained of shortage of doctors and other workers at the hospital, saying it was hindering effective service delivery which many people had mistaken for negligence.

 

While answering questions from journalists on accusations by members the public of negligence Dr  Aisha said that the hospital had acute shortage of manpower, including doctors, clinical staff and consultants which most times compelled the management to overwork the available personnel.
