Don’t Re-Appoint Gov. Ishaku’s Appointees, Taraba Needs Fresh Ideas
Many residents and groups in Taraba state have called on Governor Agbu Kefas not to appoint those who served in the Governor Darius Ishaku's administration into his cabinet
They said Governor Kefas needs fresh minds to help him achieve his dream of a better Taraba, noting that old politicians and appointees of former Governor Ishaku has nothing new to offer the state.
Many politicians in the state have continued to intensifiy lobby for appointments in the administration of the Taraba State governor, Dr. Agbu Kefas.
Most of these politicians are seeking help from religious and traditional leaders for the positions of Commissioners and Special Advisers, while some recently sacked chairmen of Boards and Parastatals are equally lobbying to be appointed or returned to their former positions.
Some of the lobbyists told Newsmen that Governor Kefas should consider experience in making his selections.
A former Special Adviser to the immediate past governor, Arc. Darius Dickson Ishaku, said, "Most of these youths lack the desired experience."
"We are not against him giving appointments to the youths, but to assign the position of a Commissioner to youths that are not fully equipped with the relevant experience to pilot the affairs of a ministry, I think that won't be good enough for the development of our dear state," he said.
But members of the Taraba Must Progress Movement warns that many veteran politicians particularly those who served between 2015 to 2023 should leave the stage for others to contribute their quota in development of the state.
"The experience that didn't move the state forward in the last eight years will not contribute anything positive again to the state, for Taraba to progress and move forward we must stop recycling old politicians into governance, these people have done their best and they should leave the stage. Its shameful that those who served under Governor Ishaku are lobbying for appointments. Tarabans will reject their nomination, Taraba needs fresh hands and people that will inject new initiatives to move the state forward.
"Taraba state has hundreds of capable individuals who were outside the government in the last decades and can contribute to the development of the state, Governor Kefas should consider these individuals to help him achieve great success in his administration."
Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas of Taraba State on Saturday says eighty percent of his Commissioners will be young people to ensure positive results.
He said the appointments he made so far of Barrister Gebon Timothy Kataps as SSG and Mr. Jeji Williams as Chief of Staff is for them to be a guide to the young Commissioners that are coming soon because of their wealth of experience and maturity.
The governor explained that he has carried out wide consultation in the selection of the Commissioner to carry everyone along.
"I just want to carry people along otherwise, I can roll out my Commissioners today but before the end of June everything will be put in place," he revealed.
Governor Dr. Agbu Kefas emphasized that his desire for quality representation and good governance for the state is not negotiable and ensured that his administration will boost the infrastructural development with the view to place the state among the contending states of the federation.
He also emphasized prioritizing youth empowerment and women's inclusiveness in governance by appointing competent ones among them
"Their appointments will be based on merit and their ability to deliver high-quality service for the benefit of Taraba State. Our administration will be people's centered and all policies will be based on the identified needs of the masses," he emphasized.
