Taraba-Born Lawyer Appointed Chief Registrar Of Court Of Appeal

 

The Federal Judicial Service Commission(FJSC) has appointed Barrister Umar Bangari as the Chief Registrar of the nation's second highest Court, the Court of Appeal.

 Mr. Bangari is a 1996 graduate of Common Law from the University of Maiduguri and was called to Bar in 1998.

 He has had a hybrid of private legal practice and public service. He was a Senior Legal Officer with the National Human Rights Commission between 1999 and 2003; and also worked with the National Assembly between 2011 and 2015 as the S.A. (Legal) to the Chief Whip of the House of Representatives. 

 In 2017, he joined the service of the National Judicial Council as Deputy Director/SSA to the Executive Secretary. He was promoted Director, Special Duties of the NJC in 2021, a position he held until his appointment as the CR of the Court of Appeal.

 

Umar Bangari hails from Mbamnga on the Mambilla Plateau of Taraba State and holds the traditional title of JARMAN MAMBILLA. He is reputed to be one of the facilitators for a peaceful resolution of the then protracted mambilla chieftancy tussle beween the Baju and Mansur Ruling Houses, leading to the adoption of the current rotation policy. 

 

He will succeed Barrister Hafeez Isa who is retiring from service having attained the age of 60.
