CAN Replies Muslims Council, MURIC Says Muslims Are Minority , Can't Win Governorship Election In Taraba State
The Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN in Taraba State, have described allegations of marginalization by the State Muslim Council and Muslim Right Concern, MURIC as irresponsible and a trash coming out of ignorance, sentiment and hatred.
Speaking at a Press conference in Jalingo, Taraba State capital, the State Chairman of CAN, Rev Dr Isaiah Magaji Jirapye also frowned at claims that Muslims are majority in the state.
According to him, the association could have remained silence, but because of the misleading nature of the Press statements it was necessary for it to response and live up to it civic responsibility.
The Christian body, observed that since the creation of Taraba State which has been one of the predominantly Christian states in Northern Nigeria, it has treated its Muslim counterparts with love, fairness and objectivity in respect to all issues of appointments.
According to CAN, Taraba State used to have Christian-Christian ticket for Governorship and the Deputy respectively but it was changed to a heterogeneous Christian-Muslim ticket to accommodate the interest of the minority Muslims Population in the state, adding that the narrative can be reversed in 2023 elections.
" It is an absolute lie that Taraba State is a predominantly Muslim state. A lie from pit of hell that is laughable by even a primary school pupil.
"Unlike the Christians, the Muslims have always voted alongside religion line from inception of Taraba to date, so why has their predominant population won election for them. Even when more Christians contests on different political platforms, their respective divided votes will always outcast that of the single Muslim candidate, a further prove that the Muslim population is in the minority.
The association noted that out of fairness the Governor supported Muslims so well that he surrendered Taraba North and South Senatorial zone to them despite the area been dominated by Christians.
The association added that Christians have the capacity to take over the zone so as to prove to Muslims will know they are the minority.
The association noted that there are several Muslims working as political appointees closely with the Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku even when he was a Minister.
On the appointment of principal officers in Taraba State University Jalingo, CAN observed that the first two past Vice Chancellor of Taraba State University were Muslims whom were appointed by a Christian Governor and only the third one that is Christian to have first serve as VC.
According to CAN, appointments in the civil service such as Permanent Secretaries are done based on established rules.
Taraba CAN also frown at replacement of Christian Deputy Governors of Kaduna, and Niger states with Muslim while Muslim Council and MURIC kept mute against the huge injustice.
Taraba CAN also decried huge marginalization of Christian in Borno state, Adamawa, and Nassarawa state.
It lamented that in Gombe state a Christian traditional ruler was removed and shot change with a Muslim.
It also said CRK as a subject has been removed in some states of the North while the Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku allows teaching if IRK.
The Taraba CAN also accused President Buhari of only considering Muslims in appointments in to Federal service.
According to it, so far all Ministers and Ambassadors in the state are been given to the Muslims.
The CAN asked the Muslim Council and MURIC and their sponsors to bury their heads in shame and stay clear of Taraba State and any attempt to push Taraba Christian will result in Christian Christian ticket.
