After 25 Years, Boundary Commission Sets To Build Pillar Emplacement On Taraba-Plateau Boundary

 

In continued efforts of the National Boundary Commission  to resolve challenges of demarcation between Taraba and Plateau states has concluded plan to build pillar emplacement on the boundary. 

 

This was made known by the Director General of the National Boundary Commission, Surv. Adamu A. Adaji during the joint meeting of officials from the both states on Interstate Boundary which took place at Valencia Hotels, Abuja, on Thursday. 

 

In an opening remark, the Director General said the two states share a lot in common and was happy that their challenges of boundary demarcation has never caused trouble between them, adding that the support and cooperation of the states towards the erection of the pillar emplacement would not be an headache to the commission. 

 

He said the boundary would be made visible on ground based on the recommendations of the report of IBTC, which had been approved since 1996. 

 

Adaji solicited for the cooperation of both states with the assistance of the traditional rulers to embark on a sensitization campaign from 26th March, 2022 and thereafter carry out a joint enlightenment campaign from 28th March to 2nd April 2022. 

 

He said the field work will commence from sector 2 at a pillar 13 on the 5th of April 2022 and to be preceded by technical meeting on the 4th of April at Wase LGA in Plateau state, adding that the two states would jointly provide adequate security through the duration of the exercise. 

 

Speaking, The Deputy Governor of Taraba state, Engr Haruna Manu said no dispute was recorded between Plateau state and Taraba state since this boundary has been approved in 1996, adding that the boundary corridor is relatively peaceful, therefore called on the counterpart to be supportive of the NBC and its constitutional duties. 

 

Manu urged the two states to sensitive their people on the boundary for them to see the need to cooperate with officers of the commission towards ensuring the success of the exercise. 

 

He also drew the attention of the security challenges in the Karim lamido LGA where the boundary stretches to Plateau state, charging the two states to provide adequate security to tackle the challenges while on course of the exercise.
