Taraba NUT Election: Teachers Forum Reject Plots To Impose ‘Government Candidate’

 

Members of the Concern Forum of Primary School Teachers in Taraba state has called on the Governor Darius Ishaku to caution those dropping his name to interfere in the forthcoming election of the Nigerian Union of Teachers NUT.

Addressing a press conference in Jalingo, Acting Chairman of the forum, Hajiya Amina Danladi alleged that some group of individuals are intimidating other candidates in race to step down for a candidate endorsed by Governor Ishaku.

 "We hereby called on these group to stay clear and stop tarnishing the image of His Excellency, the Rescue Mission Captain, because we are 100% sure that the Governor can never condescend to suppressed the constitutional right of his teachers by imposing any so called government candidate.

"The union did not stop any member from contesting for any office. They should please face the teachers and tell them what they intend to do if given the mandate,"  Danladi said.

The group also frowns at the 'political induced posting' of potential chairmanship candidates for the Union from the classrooms to administrative departments.

"we want to ask why is it that only those who are vying for chairmanship of the union were always transferred? Does that mean the members of the great union cannot on their own go constitutionally to elect their leader who will take them to the promise land?"   

Amina Danladi added that primary school Teachers are seriously suffering due to lack of payment of their five months' salary arrears .

She said apart from nonpayment of their salaries, primary school Teachers were not promoted for the past 13 years.

Amina Danladi explained that the attitude of the government to primary school Teachers shows that the government was not attaching priority to primary education.

She stated that registers, scheme of work and Chalks were not provided to schools a situation that make teaching very difficult.

 The acting chairman, explained that the state government was not encouraging good performance among primary teachers because all their right were being denied by the state government.

She called for the intervention of the National secretariats of Nigeria union of Teachers over their plight.

The executive chairman of Taraba state primary Education management Board, Mr Yakubu Agbaizu could not be reach for comment as his line were switched off when our reporter called him.
