Why We Are Building Cargo Airport in Jalingo, Gov. Ishaku
Taraba State Governor Arch Darius Dickson Ishaku has given reasons for building a Cargo section at the state owned Danbaba Danfulani Suntai Airport Jalingo.
The Governor while inspecting the expansion of the Airport to accommodate a Cargo Terminal, Governor Ishaku said the project would greatly impact positively on the agricultural potential of the state.
Governor Ishaku said the project which is expected to be completed by December 2021 would afford the state opportunities to export fresh agricultural produce from the state to other parts of the country and oversea.
"The project is going to complement our Green House Farm because the Cargo section of the airport will make it easier to handling of fresh farm produce in the state to be transported across the country, the project is to be completed as quickly as possible.
"Am very with the speed of work and quality of the job done, the contractor has assured that the project would be completed by December, this will also attract more investors to Taraba state particularly in the Agricultural sector, we will be able to export fresh milk from Taraba, vegetables and lot more," Governor Ishaku said.
The move to build a cargo section at the Jailingo Airport is coming weeks after a member representing Jalingo, Yorro, Zing Federal Constituency at the House of Representatives Hon. Kashimu Bello Maigari, has presented a motion for the need to upgrade Danbaba Danfulani Suntai Airport Jalingo to an International Airport.
Presenting the Motion on the floor of the Green Chamber, Hon. Maigari stressed that upgrading the state-owned Airport to International Status would boast the tourism and agricultural potential of the country.
He expressed concerned that the potentials of Taraba State to attract economic and social development both locally and internationally due to the presence of so many tourist attractions would not be optimally achieved without an International Airport.
"Disturbed that the numerous tourist attractions and investments in Taraba State such as the Mambilla
Plateau, Gashaka Gumti National Park, Chappal Waadi Resort, Kambari Game Reserve, Kashimbila
Game Reserve, Jolly Nyame Stadium' among others are practically becoming non-existent due to the absence of an International Airport in the State."
He also notes that Taraba State being an agro-producing state the airport serves as a huge opportunity to boost the state 's economy, which is termed as Nature Gift to the Nation, will equally serve as a link to other parts of the country:
He urged the Federal Ministry of Aviation and other relevant, authorities to upgrade the status of Jalingo, Airport, to an International Airport with state-of-the-at facilities and liaise with the Taraba State Government for the possible taking-over of the Airport.
