Calm Returns to Gassol, Bali as Displaced Tiv, Fulani Return to Farm, Home
Relatives calm is gradually returning in some part of central zone of Taraba State where over 100 persons were reported killed, properties worth millions of naira were destroyed while thousands of people were displaced.
Utsua Daa, Pangari, Bornu Kurku and Jato villages of Bali local government area, Sabon Gida Takai ward of Gassol local government area were heavily attack by suspected Fulani herders over two weeks ago.
A trip to the two affected local government areas revealed that the state and local government authorities including the traditional rulers and village heads of the two warring tribes have initiated peace moves that have yielded results which have led to the return of peace within the areas.
Our correspondent while in Bali gathered that some farmers whose farm lands are not located in the hinterland have already returned to their places and have since commenced their farming activities for the season.
The Chief of Tiv in Bali, (Ter Bali) David Gbaa said most of his people who were displaced have gone back to continue with their farming activities at their various villages.
"I spoke to the chairman Bali local government council yesterday, he assured me that everyone should go back to his or her village, we the traditional rulers also agreed among ourselves that both the Tiv and Fulani should go back and leave in peace.
The Chairman of Bali Local Government Council Prince Kallamu Mamood and his counterpart in Gassol local government council Hon. Musa Abdulahi while commenting on the return of peace in their areas said there has been continuous engagement between the government and the locals to sustain the return of the peace.
They however restate warning that no traditional ruler should encroach into farm land belonging to the IDPs.
