Six Years in Office: Residents, CSOs Others Differ On Gov. Ishaku's Performance

•Gov Ishaku Scores High on Infrastructures, Health, Education Others

•Tasked on Salaries Payment, Completion of ongoing projects

 

As administration of Taraba State Governor,  Darius Ishaku, clocked six years, residents across the state have differed on his performance with some accusing the governor of gross mismanagement of resources, many maintained that the Ishaku led Rescue Mission has justified his mandate and trust reposed him by the electorate.

Residents who spoke to Taraba Truth and Facts reports across the state argued that despite the governor's performance in areas of infrastructures, education, health there is need for improvements on workers' welfare, security and quality engagement of youths in the state.

 

A group One Taraba Coalition maintained that Governor Ishaku has left no stone unturned in all facets of development, while commending him on the various road projects in the state.

They said the roads has attracted local and foreign investors and  Tarabans can now move their goods freely, a development they claimed, was owing his commitment in boosting the state economy.  

 They maintained that though he has done incredibly well, more could still be achieved in the areas of salary payments and completion of all ongoing projects across the state.

 

The Coordinator Taraba State Conference of Nigerian Political Parties CNPP Hon. Hamman Muhammad on his part CNPP passed a vote of confidence on the leadership style of Governor Darius Dickson ishaku in the last six years. "We are happy with the infrastructural developments in Taraba State under the leadership of Governor Ishaku, the CNPP has passed a vote of confidence on his administration but we want him to do more, we want him to double his efforts in the remaining two years so that more people will feel the impact of his administration."  

Chairman of  ALGON in Taraba State Bala Bako has said that the six years of Governor Darius Dickson Ishaku has impacted positively on the state.

Bako who is the Chairman of Ibi Local Government Area  said that the governor deserve applause in the areas of electricity and water supply.

Bala Bako explained that most communities in the state are now connected to electricity and water sources Courtesy of the Governor's commitment.

He said Ibi Local Government has had it large share of the foot prints of the governor as his achievements are many and cut across the area.

According to him, several primary Schools in various village were put in place and in good shape by the governor which is ensuring effective education in the rural communities.

The ALGON Chairman also scored the governor high in the areas of peace and security. He said that the governor succeeded in stabilizing the area and the people are enjoying peace.

He disclose that the governor has approved the construction of Sarkin Kudu Dampar road and that soon the project would commence.

On the ongoing construction of the Ibi bridge,  he said that the governor and the Aku Uka contributed significantly for the commencement of the project.

On his part, grassroots politician and special Adviser to the Governor Of Taraba State, Hon Ismaila Maihanci Yushau, Has congratulated Darius Ishaku, on the occasion of his sixth year anniversary in office.

Maihanci in a statement issued to Newsmen, described Ishaku as an uncommon achiever and a visionary leader,  saying he has brought rapid and unprecedented development to Taraba in the scope of six years he has governed the state.

Maihanci further commended the governor for fulfilling most of his campaign promises to Tarabians as enshrined in the policy document of the Rescue Mission Government which ushered him into government in 2015.

Hon Maihanci further prays that God would continue to grant the governor, strength to carry on with the onerous task of governing the state against all odds.

Also listing the governor's achievements, a resident identified as Grace Elizabeth said that Ishaku has impacted 15 groups of Tarabans who never dreamt of such experiences. 

She noted that the governor went out of his way to appoint capable hands into government offices, defying political structures and party leaders in ensuring Tarabans get the best in terms of appointed representatives. 

Elizabeth noted that many youths have benefitted from the government empowerment programmes, with many now self-sufficient and employer of labour, a development she claimed, had taken many youths out of the streets. 

She added that the governor had done commendably well in the areas of infrastructures, education,  agriculture and youth empowerment with visible results.

However, a Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress APC in Taraba State  Barr. Bilyaminu Maihanci said the Governor has performed below expectation in the last six years.

"We have given him peace but we are yet to see the development, even the projects ongoing in the state are moving at a very slow pace, look at Adamawa is commissioning their flyover today but look at the one of Jalingo, look at Yorro Pantisawa road. The Governor has not fulfilled many of his campaign promises and our people have been disappointed in the last six years, am confident the APC would correct all these when elected in 2023."  

Another resident identified as Victor Kefas noted that Ishaku's administration had been that of rhetoric with nothing tangible to show for his many promises, adding that it was saddening that his six years reign had been felt by the people.

He lamented that rather than the political leaders to rise up and defend the people, they kept mute to avoid political witch-hunt and end to government patronage from the Ishaku's administration.  

According to him, the administration of Darius Dickson Ishaku has not impress many of us, particularly members of the opposition and it is pathetic that our leaders, including political, religious and traditional have kept mute as if all is well when everything is wrong. 

Another resident in Jalingo, who do not want to be named, said that the governor's inability to end ethnic killings in some part of the state has rendered his administration as failure and that without security of life and property such government is considered a failure. 

He noted that it was saddening that six years after, issues of ethnic clashes were still being heard in the state and the stakeholders look on as if all was right across the state. 

However, other residents were indifferent, saying the governor can exploit the remaining two years in office to rewrite history and correct many lapses such that would appease all grieving group or parties across the state.

Areas of focus listed for Ishaku by the resident include prompt salaries payment, prompt  completion of all ongoing projects,security of lives and property among others.
