Emir Muri Ask Youths To Return Looted Items

• Govt Relax Curfew 

The Emir of Muri Alhaji Abbas Njidda Tafida has appealed to youths in Taraba State to return looted items and shun violence while lamenting destructions of public and private properties in Jalingo, Taraba State Capital.

The Emir urged youths in the state to stop joining bandwagons and be careful from actions at this time around.                 

Briefing pressmen in his palace, on the looting situation, Tafida noted that youths should be very careful not to act in a manner that they will end up serving other people's agenda and harming themselves without knowing it.                               

"We have heard some awakening in the nation on issues that started with complain about #SARS, the police unit and after observing the extent of fouls publicity and unnecessary violence following it and as a leader, I smelled some sign of hiding agenda from some quarters of the protesters," he said.                  

The Emir called on the Taraba State governor to double on the good efforts he is already making to make sure the youths are supported to get profitable employment in areas that will give them all the necessary opportunities for their progress in the future.                          

He also warned the youths, not to be part of a plan they do not know the real motive and do not know who is behind it and the objective of those who are behind it.

"I, therefore, called on all our people and our youths, in particular, to remain calm and calculating. I agree with you by demanding positive change and you must be sure you are the one making the demands and the demands are relevant to the issues facing the good people of Taraba State," he added.                            

Tafida further called on youths to respect law and order and to act honorably, adding that no situation where anybody goes to harm any other person in other to achieve his purpose and we condemned it totally because it against the law and the law is for the benefit of everybody. 

As a leader, I and your governor will support you for all your demands but first give us peace then we will do whatever is necessary to advance your course because your is ours," he said.

Meanwhile the Taraba state government has relaxed the 24 hour curfew imposed on Jalingo, the state capital and Wukari local government area.

The state deputy governor, His Excllency, Engr. Haruna Manu said the curfew will now run from 6:00pm to 7:00am until further notice.

Manu in a statement signed by his Senior Special Assistant on New Media Musleem Aruwa said there will be a free movement from 7:00am to 6:00pm only while the remaining hours remains restricted.

He however called on persons with useful information on the criminal elements in our midst, especially those involved in the recent looting should kindly tip the security agencies nearest to them.

"Similarly, those who took part in the shameful looting of public and private property should return such items to their ward heads, village/Districts heads or the local government chairmen as these categories of leaders have been directed to collate these looted items for safekeeping so that they can be returned to government and other private businesses affected."

He added that government will continue to monitor the situation until normalcy is restored completely.
