Mathias Agbu Writes Spiritual Leaders In Southern Taraba
Indisputably, there is the role of God in the affairs of men but yet there is the role of man in the affairs of this world as well.
Our religious leaders(Pastors and Imams) wields a very influential position in our political system. Their influence is such that every politician must seek for their endorsement to make significant headway in their quest for victory at the poll. This is clearly evident during the seasons of election where our religious leaders(Pastors and Imams) rally their parishioners to vote for their endorsed candidates.
It has always been successful and I believe nothing is wrong with that because politics is a game of persuasion and interest.
With such an influence during the period of election, our religious leaders(Pastors and Imams) must also take responsibility during the period of governance of the political leaders they have championed and demand accountability from them.
We are confronted with serious challenges that is retrogressive in nature and is bound to destabilize our zone if we don't act swiftly. The people are demanding for answers and looking for leadership from their elected officials which I believe is their right. The voice of the people is the voice of God. We cannot turn deaf ears to that.
Our religious leaders(Pastors and Imams) who were influential instruments during the period of election must not become voiceless at this time but rather collectively raise their voices on behalf of the people.
If you were vocal during election, you must also be vocal and demand accountability from the leaders when things don't go right.
This is my humble plea to you on behalf of the collective voices of the people. I believe some of you are doing something and I commend you for that but I feel I need to echo this much louder.
Please do not allow your natural relationships with the political leaders of the society to prevent you from upholding and speaking the truth. You must speak truth to power for the sake of the people. You are very influential. Please don't stay quite.
God bless you as you continue to provide spiritual leadership to our people and land.
