Takum killings: 'Attempt to shield political sponsors will backfire'

The Taraba State Police Command has said it still investigating two suspects arrested in possession of dead bodies in Takum last week.
The suspects are allies of Takum Local Government Chairman Hon. Shiban Tikari.
 Two dead bodies were found inside a Toyota Hilux van allegedly belonging to the Local government chairman alongside some armed men.
Providing update on the arrest, Taraba state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP. David Misal told Taraba Truth and Facts that the suspects are still in police custody undergoing interrogation.
“We are still investigating, they are with us and we have no information to give out about the suspect at the moment, we don’t want to jeopardize our investigation,” Misal told this paper.  
However residents in Takum town  have warned against any attempt to shield the suspects and their sponsors, saying the people will resist political interference in the ongoing investigation.
 “We all know that some influential politicians are their sponsors and any attempt to shield them will backfire, the people are counting on the police for a diligent investigation on this case because it will end cases of killing and kidnapping in Southern Taraba,” a respondent told our reporter.
Also the Kuteb Yatso of Nigeria KYN has appealed to relevant authorities to resist the temptations of changing the true narrative in other to free those who aided and abetted crimes in Takum LGA.
KYN PRO William Chiusi in a statement faulted the account of the incident has narrated by the Chairman of Takum local government area, Mr Shiban Tikari that the two dead persons are armed robbers shot down by local vigilante group.
The group said: “According to the people’s surveillance report, the Hilux vehicle that conveyed the corpses moved from Takum town without entering the Police Divisional outpost in Takum, passed the police out post at Kwambai and went into Ukpa road where they dumped the corpses. Weighed along the contrary view expressed by a government official
The group questions  that:  (i) Assuming the corpses were for robbers as claimed, where did the exchange of fire took place between the so-called vigilante and the robbers that the people of Takum LGA did not hear before the corpses were found?
(ii ) Why were the corpses taken to Ukpa road where there is no police outpost instead of  Takum Police Divisional outpost.
(iii) Assuming the corpses were for robbers, the public ought not to have been denied the chance to see the faces of the corpses.
KYN noted that the people of Takum have given peace to the Government. The people want development in the area of justice. In respect to the suspects who aided and abetted the Kidnapping, killing and dumping of the corpse of Hon Hosea Ibi be prosecuted at a court of competent jurisdiction without further delay, among others.
